Gesture is an exhibition of selected works painted over the past 8 years that looks at my use and development of gestural mark making.

The notion of gesture in art often refers to the ability to capture a sense of essence or essential feeling in a simple mark. This can relate to a sense of energy or movement or simply a presence. It can capture emotion or an absolute clarity, an immediacy that commands attention without a seeming emotional component.

Some works involve a simple gesture which is complete. Others may be constructed from a series of gestural marks or responses.

 

Usually, a gesture is considered as a mark executed quickly but the true strength to gesture is the freedom to make a truly honest response.
